The collection’s main focus is on modern sculptural glass art from the 20th and 21st century. The cast and cut glass works from countries like the Czech Republic and Slovakia by artists such as Stanislav Libenský and Jaroslava Brychtová, Vaclav Cigler and Bohumil Eliáš form an important part of the collection. In addition to the cast and cut glass objects, various other techniques are shown such as blown glass.

The name Museum JAN naturally refers to the founder Jan van der Togt. But JAN also refers to Jan Verschoor. He was the advisor to Van der Togt, co-founder of the museum and former museum director. He is also an artist and his work is part of the permanent collection.

The museum was built around Verschoor's house at the Dorpsplein in Amstelveen. From the museum, visitors can take a peek into Verschoor's living room and admire his art collection.
