Remembrance of the Dead
On May 4th, we commemorate in the Netherlands the victims of the Second World War and all other wars and peacekeeping operations since then. In Amstelveen, we annually organize a gathering on May 4th, where we come together to reflect on this significant event.
On this day, Amstelveen residents once again gather at the monument on Amsterdamseweg, a place of remembrance. At 8:00 p.m, we will commemorate two minutes of silence together, a moment to honor those who gave their lives for our freedom. The commemoration ceremony starts at half past seven, and we ask all visitors to arrive on time so that the proceedings can take place undisturbed. There will be speeches by Mayor T. Poppens, the city poet, the child mayor, and a student from the Panta Rhei school community.

The Program
- 7:30 p.m.: Program begins with music by the Harmonie Orchestra Amstelveen. Speeches by, among others, Amanda ten Cate and Mayor Tjapko Poppens.
- 8:00 p.m.: 2 minutes of silence.
- 8:02 p.m.: Singing of the first and sixth stanzas of the Dutch national anthem, followed by wreath laying.
- 8:15 p.m.: Parade
